Episode 8: More from NASA's Mission Control and a Ride on the Cool Bus!

Join Lisbet Marquez for Episode 8 of Houston City Beat on HCB-TV from the Capizmo.com Studio. This was another fun episode of Houston City Beat as we continue to showcase our neighbors and stories throughout the Greater Houston Area.

Mike Acosta brings Part 2 of his conversation with Flight Director Ed Van Cise from the Christopher C. Kraft Mission Control Center at the Johnson Space Center. Van Cise began his NASA career as a co-operative education student before attaining various full-time job positions. He spent more than 6,000 hours as a Flight Controller before becoming NASA’s 78th certified human spaceflight Flight Director in 2009. NASA Flight Directors are responsible for the operations and safety of any NASA human spaceflight mission. His call sign is “Carbon Flight” and has overseen operations with the Boeing Starliner and the International Space Station. They discussed the legacy of a Flight Director’s career, how and why Van Cise decided he wanted to work for NASA, daily operations of the International Space Station, the dangers of space exploration, commercial space flight, the Artemis Program, and future plans for the moon. Ed also shares a special message for young viewers who might want to pursue a career at NASA.

Lisbet Marquez visits Lance Cavazos, owner and operator of the Cool Bus. Cavazos decided he wanted to start his own private bus business while working for the Houston Texans, and wound up purchasing a bus that was formerly used for tailgating at NRG Park during football games. Cavazos talks about his entry into the entrepreneurial world and some of the pivots he made along the way. Today the Cool bus makes its way all across the Greater Houston Area for just about any event. Birthdays, weddings, bachelor parties, bachelorette parties, proms, quinceaneras, sporting events, concerts, brewery tours, and Christmas light tours are just a few of the many reasons the Cool Bus has created so many smiles from customers. If you’re looking for a unique, fun, and cool way to party, look no further than the Cool Bus!
