One evening while my husband and I were enjoying a rare evening off together, we were wondering what to do and where to go, or even if we should go anywhere. While we enjoy the bright lights of the club scene and the friendliness of our favorite watering holes, on the nights where we can relax- we crave something a little different and preferably off the beaten path of our usual haunts.
Just as we were about to settle for a night of Netflix and my famous wings, we received a call from a friend who invited us on an adventure that would soon become our newest obsession.
We live about an hour apart and decided it was worth the possible adventure so we accepted the invitation and the three of us rode through the darkness of the Northern parts of Houston, through the trees and dark country roads near the Humble area and just as we thought we were probably going in the wrong direction, we found it!
A shining oasis in the darkness of all those trees. Now to be clear, the lights were not the lights of stars or the big bright moon, but that of cars and cars and cars, a mid-sized hole in the wall tavern of sorts and you guessed it, more cars.
As we approached the building after taking upwards of ten minutes to park, we could hear…what was that…singing! In unison. Loving music and song the way I do, I was immediately excited and walked even faster to get in to see what all the “noise” was about.
In a scene reminiscent of my favorite Freeday Friday in elementary school, imagine my surprise when I saw the entire bar filled with smiling faces and cheering patrons, small sheets of paper and brightly colored daubers.
Bingo! I was delighted and amused but wondered why we came all the way to Humble to play Bingo when there are places much closer to home and why was everyone singing? As if on cue the next round began and I heard Bon Jovi playing over the PA system. Everyone started to sing, those that didn’t know the song quickly held up their phone so that they could Shazam the title of the track and folks began to reminisce about the first time they ever heard the song or some other memory associated with it. This, My Friends, was no regular Bingo, it was Singo!

Nothing brings people together like good music; and combine that with the fact that each song (ranging from hard rock to the smoothest R&B) catapulted the listeners into their individual yester-year of memories and fun-how can you go wrong?
As we were purchasing our ten dollar cards for the next round I heard someone say, ‘Singo!” and the entire bar burst out into uproarious laughter and smiles were all around- especially the young lady that won the $2000 pot. Yes, that’s a 2, with three zeros behind it.
We stayed well into the early morning hours…
Once we were back home, I looked for other places to play Singo and found that they are everywhere! A simple Google search will give you a listing of the venues that are sponsoring Singo-Bingo nights all around the city.
So the next time you are out and about in the city and looking for something different, consider going to a Singo night!
You won’t regret it!
