HOUSTON, TX - The air was filled with excitement and energy at the Connect YMCA on February 22nd, as "ReUnion Breaking Event," a collaboration between Houston reVision and the Connect YMCA, kicked off. From 2 PM until 8 PM, Winter Jam transformed into a vibrant celebration of urban arts, marking a pivotal moment for Houston's breaking community. This wasn't just a competition; it was a launchpad, a declaration of youth empowerment through the raw, expressive power of breaking.
The ReUnion Breaking Event was a significant milestone for the organization as it marked Houston reVision's official entry into the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) league. Under the leadership of Houston reVision alumnus Jose Cardenas, the event spotlighted the organization's newly formed AAU Breaking Team, a testament to the transformative power of dedication and artistic expression. The energy was palpable as breakers of all ages showcased their skills, pushing boundaries and inspiring the crowd. Based in the Gulfton/Sharpstown neighborhood, a densely populated area facing significant challenges, Houston reVision is dedicated to breaking the cycle of juvenile justice involvement and homelessness among youth in Harris County.

Their programs address a wide range of needs, including:
- Mentoring and Case Management: Providing individualized support through one-on-one, group, and peer mentoring, as well as wraparound case management.
- Essential Needs: Meeting basic needs such as food, clothing, and hygiene supplies.
- Educational and Workforce Support: Offering tutoring, homework help, educational support, workforce training, and employment assistance.
- Mental Health and Well-being: Providing mental health services and counseling.
- Housing Stability Program: Supporting youth aged 16 to 24 experiencing housing instability with comprehensive services.
The Drop-in Center offers a safe space for youth to engage in pro-social activities, including sports, art, and music programs. The recent launch of a girls' soccer team further expands opportunities for youth engagement.
Houston reVision's impact is undeniable. Their work has contributed to a significant decline in youth incarceration in Harris County, and many of their staff members are former participants whose lives were transformed by the organization.
