Terry Puhl, Astros Hall of Famer and Houston Baseball Alumni Association Executive Director

Terry Puhl is a native of Melville, Saskatchewan, Canada, who made a lifetime home in Houston, Texas. Puhl played for the Houston Astros as an outfielder from 1977-1990, primarily as a right-fielder and was one of the most clutch hitters in franchise history. He was part of Astros teams built on speed, defense, and solid pitching. His 14 seasons in a Houston uniform are third all-time in franchise history, trailing only Craig Biggio (20) and Jeff Bagwell (15). Puhl is in the Top 10 in Astros history in multiple categories. He batted a then record of .526 (10x19) in the 1980 National League Championship Series. He hit a combined .327 in 13 career postseason games.

Defensively, Puhl was also outstanding, with only 18 errors in 1,300 games in the Major Leagues. His .993 fielding percentage is the best among outfielders in Houston history. He batted .300 in three different seasons and .282 or higher nine times. A speedster on the bases, Puhl stole 30 or more bases twice and more than 20 bases six times over his career. He was a 1978 National League All-Star. Puhl remained in Houston after retirement and entered a career in wealth management. He became the head baseball coach at the University of Houston-Victoria in 2007, leading the program until he retired in 2022, the same year he was inducted into the Astros Hall of Fame.

In 2023 Terry Puhl has taken another step in his baseball career as Executive Director of the Astros Alumni Association, an organization dedicated to connecting and promoting former Astros Alumni for various places of the globe.
