A New Chapter in the Heights
This week’s Sweet Scoop is all about new beginnings and few people make them sweeter than Kelly Simon and The Selling Houston Team with Kelly Simon Properties, proud members of our Houston City Beat Community Connectors. Kelly recently helped a pair of empty nesters take a big leap, trading suburban sprawl for the charm and walkability of the Heights. They had planned to wait until spring, but as often happens in love stories (especially the real estate kind), fate had other plans. The moment they stepped into the home, they knew it was “the one.” The house checked all the boxes: cozy, connected, and complete with an attached guest quarters that's perfect for when their kids come home to visit. Now, instead of long drives and quiet cul-de-sacs, they’re surrounded by neighborhood restaurants, local shops, and that one-of-a-kind Heights vibe. Cheers to Kelly and her team for helping another Houston family find their perfect next chapter — right where the city’s heart beats strongest.

The Shine Scene
We also have a Sweet Scoop on the shine scene where hard work meets heart. Meet Oscar Duran and his wife Elizabeth, the husband-and-wife duo behind Super Shine Squad, one of Houston’s favorite family-run detailing businesses and proud members of the Houston City Beat Community Connectors. Oscar and Elizabeth have built their business the old-fashioned way, through dedication, quality work, and a genuine love for people. Whether it’s a deep clean or a quick shine, their customers know they’ll leave with more than just a spotless car, they’ll leave smiling. Now, the Duran's are adding a personal touch to their brand with something everyone loves: that new car smell. They’re in the process of creating their very own signature air freshener, a small but mighty way to make every detail job uniquely “Super Shine.” The only problem? They can’t decide which scent to choose, a fun reminder that even perfectionists have playful debates. It’s another example of a Houston family turning passion into purpose, one clean car (and fresh scent) at a time.

Empowering Women, Uplifting Houston
This week’s Sweet Scoop shines on a woman whose heart for service and community is making a big impact right here in Houston.
Adrianna Rubio-Clasen, founder of the International Women’s Festival, recently presented a $24,000 donation to the Roque Foundation — the beneficiary of this year’s event. The gift supports the foundation’s mission to uplift lives through education, health, and empowerment.
Held in the heart of Houston on September 6th, the International Women’s Festival brought together women from all walks of life for a day of celebration, connection, and inspiration. Adrianna and her powerhouse team, Las Leonesas, created a space that honors the strength, beauty, and resilience of women — not only through inspiring stories but through tangible impact.
More than just an event, this festival has become a movement — uniting cultures, sparking conversations, and building community across Houston. And this year’s celebration was extra special, as the Women’s Fest took center stage at the larger Houston International Festival, shining a light on women’s achievements across art, music, and culture.
Cheers to Adrianna, Las Leonesas, and the Roque Foundation for showing that when women lead with heart, the entire community rises with them.

Building Better Spaces Across Houston
Over the past two weeks, ALEXSCA has been busy addressing the kind of issues that become critical this time of year: water intrusion, rotting wood, and structural deterioration caused by Houston’s humidity and summer storms.
In between major commercial projects, the company completed several residential restorations, including:
• Rebuilding a rotted patio roof and framing that posed life-safety concerns, installing a watertight roof and custom pontoon lighting for a family of four.
• Custom installation of new backyard doors, combining security, function, and modern design.
At the same time, ALEXSCA’s crews have mobilized in Baytown for a large-scale residential restoration project, removing and reinstalling Tyvek insulation across 11 apartment buildings after extensive moisture damage was discovered.
From small family homes to multi-unit developments, ALEXSCA applies the same principle to every project: build with integrity, craftsmanship, and care.
